Troubleshooting and Remedial Work

With most sites now having a LAN of some kind, the majority of computers or networks we set-up tend to be upgrades or replacements rather than virgin installs. However, another very significant area of work is that of remedial work to IT equipment which for various reasons isn't performing as expected.

This could include numerous trouble areas, but typically:
  • Extreme slowness of networked computers
  • User log-on or profile problems
  • Virus or malware removal
  • Problems with the antivirus software itself
  • Unreliability of connections (server keeps 'disappearing')
  • Bad permissions on server shares or files causing loss of access
  • Email routing and delivery problems
  • Spam flooding your inbox, in spite of filtering software
  • Malfunctioning, inefficient or slow local networks.
  • Internet service provider (ISP) issues
  • Backups failing
  • Website, domain or hosting problems

Increasingly, we have been developing an expertise in diagnosing problems on sites for which the existing support-provider is at a loss to explain why things never work reliably. Thus, we get called-in to give an opinion on what's causing the issues. Usually we can suggest a fix. Often the problems are down-to surprisingly minor issues, or they may be due-to an unfavourable combination of settings, settings which would be OK on their own but which cannot coexist together. Having encountered the most prevalent issues many times before, we can often pinpoint the trouble in the space of a few hours work, and solve an issue that's possibly been generating repeated service-calls (and enormous support-costs) for the last year or two.

If you have been experiencing ongoing problems of this general kind, and your present IT provider can't find the cause, then we may well be able to help. Once we've demonstrated that we can make significant improvements, you may of course wish to switch to us for your main support provision. There is no pressure to do so, though. Alternatively, and if it suits you better, you may continue to use your existing support-provider. In such cases we are here to act as consultants, and provided access is permitted by your present support-provider, we can examine your setup and provide the necessary advice as to how to fix the problems.

Remember that an initial consultation and basic appraisal of the problem is free, charging only starts when we begin to do diagnostic or other work. Thus, it's never too soon to give us a call.
